District of Character
The “District of Character” is an initiative I created to enhance character development and promote daily reminders for residents of the 189th District about how we can create a stronger community without policy changes. No one is perfect, but we can always work to improve our character daily. Click here to learn more.
The word of the month for March is “tolerance.”
“A fair, objective and permissive attitude toward those whose opinions, beliefs, practices, racial or ethnic origins, etc., differ from one’s own.”

Women of Character Panel

On Tuesday, I participated in the East Stroudsburg High School South’s Women of Character, Women’s History Month Roundtable. Two panels of local women spoke about their experiences and how they got to where they are in their lives.
The panelists included East Stroudsburg University (ESU) President Dr. Marcia Welsh; Dean of Student Life at ESU Cornelia Sewell Allen; retired East Stroudsburg Area School District Superintendent Sharon Laverdure; Mayor of Stroudsburg Tarah Probst; and WBRE reporter, Brianna Strunk. Thank you to the AP U.S. Government and ASPIRE students and Michael Healey, who hosted these panels, as well as these women of character.
Remembering, Honoring and Respecting Our Vietnam Veterans

On Wednesday, I spoke at the Monroe County Vietnam Veterans Memorial Ceremony in Courthouse Square in Stroudsburg to thank our Vietnam veterans and remember those from Monroe County who were killed in action and gave the ultimate sacrifice. The names of the men lost were read, and a bell was rung in honor of each. Pictured above are members of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Pocono Chapter 678. Thank you to the Monroe County Vietnam Veterans Association who organized the event and raised funds so that we could be united in remembering, and continue to thank the men and women who served and fought for our freedom. To all our Vietnam veterans – Welcome home!
State Veterans Agency Seeks Vietnam Veterans

As a way to pay tribute to all of the men and women from Pennsylvania who died as a result of the Vietnam War, the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) is asking the public for help in finding the remaining 105 Vietnam veterans from Pennsylvania who are not yet included in the agency’s Wall of Faces project.

For the past two years the DMVA has partnered with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) in Washington, D.C., to find a photo of every Pennsylvanian whose name appears on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. The VVMF is posting the photos on a virtual Wall of Faces to put a face and a story to every name, allowing these Vietnam veterans to be honored by family, friends and others from around the world.

A complete list of Pennsylvania Vietnam Veterans whose photos are still needed can be found by going to, and clicking on Wall of Faces. Instructions on how to submit a photo can be found here
Read Across America Month

As part of Read Across America Month, I had the opportunity to read to students at East Stroudsburg University’s Mekeel Child Care Center on March 23. It is always great to encourage reading and learning among our students.
