Brown Announces Local Grants that Invest in the Environment
EAST STROUDSBURG – Rep. Rosemary Brown (R-Monroe/Pike) announced her support of Hamilton and Smithfield townships along with Pike County being awarded $860,000 in Community Conservation Partnership Program (C2P2) grants administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for local recreational development projects.

“This is great news for both these municipalities and Pike County as so many rely on using their local community parks to enjoy the nature around them,” said Brown. “These projects will serve as a form of revitalization for our residents and visitors to utilize while balancing and building our economic and environmental investments.”

The breakdown of the state grants is as follows:

Monroe County
• Hamilton Township received $775,000, which will be used as payment toward the acquisition of approximately 88 acres along Strawberry Hill Road for a new township park.
• Smithfield Township received $25,000 to prepare a master site development plan for the 4-acre River’s Edge Bike Park, and will result in a written and bound plan of action for the site moving forward.

Pike County
• Pike County received $60,000 to prepare a comprehensive recreation, park, open space and greenways plan, and will result in a written and bound plan of action for the site moving forward.

C2P2 grants were created to promote conservation and recreation-focused projects and programs. They are awarded to municipalities and authorized nonprofit organizations for recreation, park and conservation projects.

These include the rehabilitation and new development of parks and recreation facilities (development projects); acquisition of land for active or passive park and conservation purposes (acquisition projects); and planning for feasibility studies, trails studies, conservation plans, site development planning, and comprehensive recreation, greenway and open space planning.
