District of Character
The “District of Character” is an initiative I created to enhance character development and promote daily reminders for residents of the 189th District about how we can create a stronger community without policy changes. No one is perfect, but we can always work to improve our character daily.
March word of the month is “Morality.”

“Conformity to the rules of proper conduct; moral or virtuous conduct.”

Are You Looking to be Pre-Verified for Your REAL ID?

PennDOT has begun issuing REAL IDs.

A federally accepted form of identification must be used as identification to board a commercial flight or visit a secure federal building starting Oct. 1, 2020. A Pennsylvania REAL ID will fulfill this requirement, as will a U.S. passport. Under state law, REAL ID is optional for Pennsylvania residents. PennDOT will continue to offer standard-issue driver’s licenses and photo IDs. Residents should determine if they have the need to fly or enter federal buildings when deciding whether to obtain a Real ID versus a standard ID.

To help ease the pre-verification process for our community, I will be hosting a Real ID Pre-Verification event in which PennDOT workers will be available to pre-verify you for your Real ID. Our next event will be on Friday, March 22, 5-8 p.m., at the Monroe County Safety Center, 100 Gypsum Road, Stroudsburg.

Residents who wish to be pre-verified for their REAL ID, will be required to bring original versions or certified copies of the following documents for verification to the locations mentioned above or their local Driver License Center:

Proof of identity, such as an original or certified copy of your birth certificate with a raised or embossed seal, or a valid U.S. passport or passport card. Birth certificates with a sticker rather than an embossed seal will not be accepted.

Proof of Social Security number by providing your Social Security card. The name on the card must match the name on your current driver license or photo identification card.

Proof of legal name changes, such as marriage certificates or court orders issued by a family court. You must have documentation to show all name changes from your original name on your birth certificate to your current name.

Proof of current, physical address, such as your current, unexpired driver license or state issued ID card, vehicle registration or utility bill. TWO forms of proof must be provided.

More information about REAL ID in Pennsylvania, including frequently asked questions and additional guidelines on documents required for REAL ID, can be found at penndot.gov/REALID.

Registration is required for this event. To register, or for more information, please call my office at 570-420-8301.

East Stroudsburg High School Choir Performed at Capitol

Unfortunately, I was not in the Capitol last Wednesday, so I missed hearing them myself. However, staff is telling me how incredible the East Stroudsburg High School Choir sounded singing in our Capitol rotunda in Harrisburg. Great Job to Music Director Keith Labar for all of his commitment to this program and all of the students for sharing their talents and music at the Capitol.

Matching Good-Paying Jobs with the Right Training

House Republicans are focusing on good jobs and careers for all Pennsylvanians, working to improve our workforce development and career and technical education opportunities, and advancing policies to help transition people from minimum wage jobs to family-sustaining careers.

This week, a package of bills that will help us achieve these goals earned committee approval and will now advance to the full House for a vote.

This package includes bills that would boost awareness of workforce needs and increase the flexibility for secondary CTE programs. Bills would also create a comprehensive online CTE resource center and coordinate a state-level career exploration and workforce development opportunities.

Improving the way CTE works in Pennsylvania also would include putting at least one K-12 career and technical center administrator on each Workforce Development Board and creating a database with information on where courses, programs, certificates, and diplomas transfer among public schools and institutions of higher education.

Report Potholes to PennDOT

With the thaw out of spring comes the growth of potholes on Pennsylvania’s roads.
Extreme fluctuations in temperatures, coupled with an active snow season, can contribute to more potholes on our roads.

To help combat potholes and prevent them from becoming a danger to vehicles and drivers on the road, you can report potholes to PennDOT.

You can report potholes by calling 1-800-FIX-ROAD or by clicking here to file a report online
