‘Share Your Career Day’ Scheduled for June 7, Browns Says
6/1/2018
EAST STROUDSBURG – Rep. Rosemary M. Brown (R-Monroe/Pike), the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Monroe County (RSVP) and East Stroudsburg High School South’s Advanced Placement program are hosting the first-ever “Share Your Career Day” event on Thursday, June 7, from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., in the East Stroudsburg High School South’s cafeteria, located at 279 N. Courtland St.

RSVP will have 25 volunteers meet with students from East Stroudsburg High School South to discuss their interests in a variety of career paths. The career fields will include medicine, law, education, social services, publishing, government, finance, public service, law enforcement, technology, sales and real estate.

The goal of this intergenerational pilot program is to develop mentorships between retired adults from a variety of industries and career paths with students who are beginning to seriously consider their futures.

“The more we can provide our students with realistic knowledge about their futures, the better they will be able to make informed decisions in today’s competitive job market,” Brown said. “You can only learn so much from a book. To have the chance to talk frankly with someone who is willing to share their life experiences is a great opportunity.”

“RSVP has a wonderful collection of experienced and talented volunteers who are eager to share the history of their careers, both good and bad, with high school students,” RSVP Director Merle Turitz said. “We are looking forward to being part of these important conversations.”

“This is a wonderful opportunity for these young men and women to look into the future and gain real-life insight from those who have already walked the walk,” said East Stroudsburg High School South AP Teacher Paul Kernan. “The format for the day was planned by the students and we are hoping for some wonderful outcomes and meaningful mentorships to come out of sharing these experiences.”
