Brown: $2 Million Smithfield Gateway Roadway Improvements Included in 2016/17 PennDOT Multi Modal Grants
10/14/2016
HARRISBURG – Earlier today, the governor announced a $40 million Multimodal Transportation Fund grant package from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) for 37 highway, bike and pedestrian projects across the state, including one in Monroe County, Rep. Rosemary M. Brown (R-Monroe/Pike) said.

Pocono Mountain Industries Inc., will receive $2,074,563 to construct roadway improvements on Routes 209 and 447, to support the construction of Smithfield Gateway, a mixed-use development in Smithfield Township.

“This roadwork improvement is critical for this section of our community and should have been done years ago,” Brown said. “Because of the Smithfield Gateway project, more than $7 million in roadwork improvements will be occurring. The $2,074,563 grant will aid in this roadwork, and is a tremendous return on investment for our community both in road safety, economic development and aesthetic qualities, as it’s a main exit and entrance of the Poconos.”
