Brown Votes in Favor of 2014-15 State Budget, Highlights $10.5 Billion in State Education Funding
HARRISBURG – On Monday, June 30, state Rep. Rosemary Brown (R-Monroe/Pike) voted in favor of the state’s $29.099 billion budget.

“As the state deals with lower than expected projected revenues, I believe this 2014-15 budget is balanced and includes responsible spending that adequately funds the core, essential government services,” Brown stated. “I believe this budget to be sensitive to the taxpayers by not raising any taxes at the state level.”

The 2014-15 budget includes a record-setting investment in education, totaling $10.5 billion for preK-12 education, the highest amount of state funding ever dedicated to education. Education funding in this budget represents nearly 36 percent of the entire state budget. School districts will receive increased amounts under this budget:
•    East Stroudsburg Area School District – $29,727,302, a $1,968,250 increase from last year.
•    Delaware Valley - $23,444,838, a $1,367,717 increase from last year.
•    Pleasant Valley - $35,103,666, a $1,560,393 increase from last year.
•    Stroudsburg - $23,068,443, a $1,005,875 increase from last year.

Brown also highlighted that this budget appropriates $1.046 billion for special education, the first increase to this line item in six years. “That represents a $20 million increase,” Brown added. Additionally, early childhood education receives funding increases for the Pre-K Counts and Early Intervention programs.

“The state is paying $1.3 billion in the 2014-15 fiscal year to fund pension obligations,” Brown explained. “This amount will only continue to grow without pension reform at the state-level.”

This budget takes effect on Tuesday, July 1. Visit for a detailed outline of the 2014-15 state budget. For additional information on the state budget, or any other state-related issue, contact Brown’s district office by calling 570-420-8301, or visit
