Scavello, Peifer, Brown Announce Emergency Services Grants
HARRISBURG – Nearly two dozen volunteer fire and emergency response organizations in Monroe County have been awarded grants from the state, Reps. Mario Scavello (R-Monroe), Mike Peifer (R-Monroe/Pike/Wayne) and Rosemary Brown (R-Monroe/Pike) announced today.

The grants awarded through the Fire Company and Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program totaled nearly $250,000.

“The majority of fire and ambulance departments across the Commonwealth are operated by selfless volunteers who are devoted to helping residents of our communities,” Scavello said. “These grants are a great way to help volunteer companies maintain state-of-the-art equipment and provide training programs.”

“We are so fortunate in our region to have dedicated volunteers who are willing to serve our communities,” Peifer said. “These state grants will help support them in their mission of protecting the public.”

“These organizations work hard day in and day out to protect our property and keep our communities safe, and I am pleased the state is able to help them by providing these funds,” Brown said.

The funding comes from an ongoing grant program created by the Legislature and administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and Office of the State Fire Commissioner. All funding comes from the proceeds from slot machine gaming, and not general fund tax revenue.

Projects eligible for grant funding include: construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training, or reduction of existing debt.
