WHAT: Rep. Rosemary M. Brown (R-Monroe/Pike) will recognize the winner of her “There Ought to be a Law” Contest. This contest was open to fourth through sixth grade students in school districts represented by Brown and was designed to encourage an interest in state government. Each student was allowed to submit and explain one original idea for a new law in Pennsylvania. The winner will be invited for a tour of the state Capitol in Harrisburg.

WHAT: State Rep. Rosemary M. Brown (R-Monroe/Pike) is hosting a Homeowner Association (HOA) Board Member Seminar with the HOA Taskforce to provide information about enforcing association rules and the appeals process, reserve studies and why they may be needed, and self-management versus a management company. A large portion of residents in the Pocono Region live in private communities, and this seminar is focused on offering education to help board members serve their communities.

HARRISBURG – The House Transportation Committee held a hearing on Tuesday focused on attempting to reduce incidents of distracted driving. In Pennsylvania, 16,050 distracted driving crashes resulted in 69 fatalities in 2016. Part of the discussion was House Bill 1684, legislation sponsored by Rep. Rosemary M. Brown (R-Monroe/Pike) to prohibit calls on hand-held mobile telephones, except with the use of hands-free accessories, while operating a motor vehicle in Pennsylvania.

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed a balanced state spending plan by a vote of 173-27 on Friday, June 30. Rep. Rosemary M. Brown (R-Monroe/Pike) voted in favor of the plan. The spending plan is a unified product of compromise between the state House, Senate and Gov. Tom Wolf which includes no broad-based state tax increases and consolidates state government while still funding essential state services.
